Hazardous Area Classification Assessment at a Pharmaceutical Industry in East Jakarta

Introduction: Fire is a common risk in any industrial facility that uses combustible and flammable raw materials, products, or supporting materials. Among others, the pharmaceutical industry exposed to such due application of liquids including ethanol as volatile solvent production areas, which has potential form explosive atmospheres through evaporation from pools created by accidental releases. Therefore, this study aims analyze hazardous area classification (HAC) storage areas facilitate execution mitigation efforts for reducing role ignition sources cause fire explosion. Methods: The HAC assessment was carried out December 2021 - January 2022 using quantitative method outlined International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standard: IEC/EN 60079-10-1 zone determination. During flash point analysis, ASTM D-93 employed define class liquid. Results: fell into 2 category based on secondary grade release, well areas’ ventilation effectiveness with medium dilution, fair availability. extent up 3 m release source. Conclusion: Ignition capable leading explosion incidents should be controlled.
